MHSAA Fall Public Service Announcements

The following are 11 public service announcements for your station's use during your regular or sports programming for this coming fall. Each announcement runs between 20 and 30 seconds in length.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association is a non-profit interscholastic athletics service organization, made up of member schools from your community and other parts of the state. The Association office is based in East Lansing. We hope that you will find the enclosed announcements useful. We will be sending mailings on a quarterly basis.

Outlets originating contests in any MHSAA-sponsored tournament are required to provide 90 seconds of air time to the Association per game. These scripts may be used to fulfill that requirement.

If you have any questions, or desire additional material, feel free to contact our office at 517/332-5046; by fax at 517/332-4071; or watch for our new e-mail address, which is to be announced soon.

SPORTSMANSHIP SUMMIT SEPTEMBER 24
For use between 9/1/97 and 9/23/97

There’s a cultural civil war taking place daily on our athletic fields, a war where acts of poor sportsmanship reign. A war that is being waged even in high school sports. To address this issue, the Michigan High School Athletic Association will conduct a Sportsmanship Summit on September 24 in Lansing, to provide local educators, coaches and spectators with the perspective needed to keep school sports a learning labratory where sportsmanship comes first. For more information, contact the M-H-S-A-A office in East Lansing. A public service message from the M-H-S-A-A and (your station’s call letters).

SPORTSMANSHIP BEGINS AT HOME
For use between 9/1/97 and 12/6/97

Many parents, while watching a sporting event with their child, are quick to point out why a play turned out the way it did to teach them something about the game. But too many times, nothing is said about examples of outstanding or poor behavior on the playing surface. Parents, what are you teaching your kids about sportsmanship? Good Sports Are Winners because they know that sportsmanship begins at home.A public service message from the Michigan High School Athletic Association and (your station’s call letters).

ANSWER THE CALL! COACH & OFFICIAL RECRUITMENT
For use between 9/1/97 and 12/6/97

Can you remember the times you couldn’t wait for your coach to send you into the game? How excited you were...ready to answer the call? You can do it all over again today and help kids in your community in the process by becoming a school coach or registered game official. To Answer The Call, contact your local school athletic administrator or the Michigan High School Athletic Association in East Lansing. A public service message from the M-H-S-A-A and (your station’s call letters).

SUPPORT EXTRA-CURRICULAR ATHLETIC PROGRAMS
For use between 9/1/96 and 12/7/96

School sports aren’t about winning championships or preparing a young person for a potential collegiate athletic career. School sports are actually more important than that. The privilege of participation is a good part of an education, providing experiences that complement classroom learing. These programs produce tomorrow’s leaders. Support your local school athletic program! A public service message from the Michigan High School Athletic Association and
(your station’s call letters).

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: A PRIVILEGE TO PLAY
