Football: First and 20 for Lansing Catholic's Rush

If Lansing Catholic’s Cooper Rush would’ve thrown that late second-quarter pass just a litter farther Friday, his receiver probably would’ve had time to run under and catch it.

But it was hard for the Cougars’ senior quarterback to be disappointed. His first miss came after 20 straight completions to begin a 61-13 Division 5 Regional win over Dowagiac – and was one of two MHSAA records Rush set or tied on the night.

Prep Zone: Regional Final Previews

Two top-ranked teams and four of the best from metro Detroit highlight Friday's Prep Zone football games streamed live on FoxSportsDetroit.com.

This is the final week of home field advantage for any opponent. Next week’s Semifinals and 8-player Final all will be played at neutral sites. The winners of two of tonight’s Prep Zone games will meet in a Division 1 Semifinal on Nov. 19.

Here’s a preview of all four of this week’s Prep Zone games. All kick off at 7 p.m., and all also will be archived for on-demand viewing at MHSAA.tv. (Rankings below by The Associated Press' panel of media voters.)

Geoff Kimmerly joined the Michigan High School Athletic Association in September 2011 after nearly 12 years as Prep Sports Editor at the Lansing State Journal. His work also has appeared in USA Today and newspapers across the state, and he served as a state voter for The Associated Press.
