Did you see that? (Winter begins)

Fall has ended and winter has begun. And every Monday we'll post here some of the most headline-worthy results and major news coming from all over our state.
Hockey, Upper Peninsula bowling, gymnastics, Upper Peninsula swimming and diving and competitive cheer all are underway, although the majority of competitions in the latter four take place after the start of the new year. Girls basketball, Lower Peninsula swimming and diving and bowling all begin this week.
And next week sees the starts of the rest: boys basketball, boys and girls skiing and wrestling.
We're busy populating MHSAA.com with schedules for all sports and especially basketball, and will display every score that comes in for any sport. Anyone can enter scores by simply registering on the site. Feel free to give us a hand, and keeping tuning in to Second Half for more features, rankings and the like all winter long.

1. CROSS COUNTRY The Freeland and Goodrich girls and Frankenmuth and Midland boys won at the Northwood Invitational – Saginaw News | Athletic.net
2. GIRLS GOLF Bay City Western reclaimed the Bay County title, finishing ahead of two-time reigning champion John Glenn by 13 strokes – Bay City Times
3. VOLLEYBALL Kingsley finished 6-0 to win its invitational, defeating Gaylord in the championship match – Traverse City Record-Eagle
4. VOLLEYBALL Manton went 5-0-1 and defeated Onekama in the final to win its invitational – Cadillac News
5. VOLLEYBALL Division 1 honorable mention Muskegon Mona Shores won all four of its matches to claim the gold bracket championship at the Fruitport Invitational – Local Sports Journal
6. CROSS COUNTRY Brighton swept championships at the Averill Invitational, and the Pontiac Notre Dame Prep girls and Williamston boys also were victorious – Livingston Daily Press & Argus | Athletic.net
7. CROSS COUNTY The Ubly girls and Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port Laker boys won Bad Axe Invitational titles – Huron Daily Tribune | Athletic.net
8. VOLLEYBALL Bronson defeated Jonesville, Adrian Madison and Vicksburg at its weekend quad – Coldwater Daily Reporter
9. VOLLEYBALL Division 1 honorable mention Grand Haven finished 3-1 at its End of Summer Bash – Grand Haven Tribune
