The MHSAA volleyball and boys soccer tournaments continued to progress Tuesday, although tragedy over the weekend left one community mourning – while paying a touching tribute – during its first-round victory.

Each weekday during the school year, we’ll gather and post media links covering the most significant and intriguing high school events from all over the state.

Cross Country

The Sturgis girls and Constantine boys won one of the final regular-season races of this fall, earning St. Joseph county championships – Sturgis Journal

Boys Soccer

Division 1 No. 6 Troy Athens secured the final spot in the MHSAA Semifinal field with a shootout win over Macomb Dakota – Oakland Press

Volleyball

In a matchup of Class A honorable mentions, Macomb Dakota came back from a 2-0 deficit to edge New Baltimore Anchor Bay in five – Macomb Daily

Romulus Summit Academy earned its first volleyball postseason win ever, 3-2 over Flat Rock in Class B – Southgate News-Herald

Class A honorable mention Saline swept Pinckney in Class A, earning coach Kenny Seiler his 300th victory at the school – Saline Post

In perhaps the closest three-set match of Tuesday night, Battle Creek Lakeview downed Coldwater in Class A 25-23, 25-21, 26-24 – Battle Creek Enquirer

Class A honorable mention Caledonia won its first-round District match Tuesday against Middleville Thornapple Kellogg, but with an empty seat on the bench; teammate Macayla Kohn died in a car crash Friday, and her seat will remain hers alone during this tournament run – Grand Rapids Press

1. BOYS SOCCER South Lyon East took Novi to a sixth round of penalty kicks in winning their Division 1 District opener – Oakland Press

2. CROSS COUNTRY The Saugatuck boys – No. 3 in Lower Peninsula Division 4 – and No. 4 Gobles girls won Southwestern Athletic Conference championships – Holland Sentinel

3. BOYS TENNIS Top-ranked Midland Dow clinched a 15th-straight Regional title with a perfect score in LPD2 – Midland Daily News

4. VOLLEYBALL Division 2 No. 6 Orchard Lake St. Mary’s swept Macomb Lutheran North to win the Detroit Catholic League Central Tournament championship – Oakland Press

5. BOYS TENNIS No. 2 Traverse City St. Francis was first, No. 4 Ludington second and No. 6 Maple City Glen Lake also qualified from their LPD4 Regional – Traverse City Record-Eagle

6. VOLLEYBALL Division 4 honorable mention Clarkston Everest Collegiate swept Ann Arbor Greenhills to clinch the Catholic League St. Anne Tournament title – Oakland Press

7. BOYS SOCCER No. 2 Muskegon Western Michigan Christian downed Muskegon Catholic Central 2-0 in a Division 4 District opener – Local Sports Journal

8. BOYS SOCCER Parma Western defeated Jackson 2-1 in overtime in a Division 2 District game – Jackson Citizen Patriot

9. BOYS SOCCER No. 15 Brighton edged Okemos 1-0 in a Division 1 District soccer matchup – Livingston Daily Press & Argus
