Girls basketball season kicked off across Michigan on Monday, and we’ve highlighted a few of those first games plus some interesting reads as the first full week of winter gets rolling.

Brighton was among teams that started its season Monday, and did so in impressive fashion with a 66-43 win over Linden – Livingston Daily Press & Argus
Brethren downed Buckley 35-30 in one of the closest games of opening night – Manistee News Advocate
Canton took a 10-point halftime lead and extended it for a 56-30 win over Detroit Cass Tech – Detroit News

1. GIRLS SOCCER Division 4 No. 10 Schoolcraft earned its first Regional title with a 1-0 win over No. 6 Plymouth Christian Academy in Division 4 – Kalamazoo Gazette
