Girls basketball season kicked off across Michigan on Monday, and we’ve highlighted a few of those first games plus some interesting reads as the first full week of winter gets rolling.

Brighton was among teams that started its season Monday, and did so in impressive fashion with a 66-43 win over Linden – Livingston Daily Press & Argus

Brethren downed Buckley 35-30 in one of the closest games of opening night – Manistee News Advocate

Canton took a 10-point halftime lead and extended it for a 56-30 win over Detroit Cass Tech – Detroit News

7. ICE HOCKEY Division 1 No. 4 Utica Eisenhower came back from an early deficit  to defeat Division 2 No. 10 St. Clair Shores Unified 5-2 – Macomb Daily

8. BOYS BASKETBALL Auburn Hills Avondale took a major step in the Oakland Activities Association Red with a 59-46 win over North Farmington – Oakland Press

9. BOYS BASKETBALL Lansing Sexton made a significant move in the Capital Area Activities Conference White with a 75-48 victory over Charlotte – Lansing State Journal
