Each weekday of the school year, we break down the top headlines courtesy of Michigan’s sports media.

We’re at that point in the fall when only three sports are still playing – Volleyball Regionals begin today, Girls Diving qualification is Thursday and Football Regional Finals and 8-Player Semifinals are this weekend. So today we’re catching up with a few headlines we missed in girls swimming & diving over the weekend, plus noting a significant District Final on the volleyball court.

Girls Swimming & Diving: From Friday, LPD3 honorable mention Trenton clinched its eighth straight Downriver League championship, winning the league meet – Southgate News-Herald

Volleyball: From Friday, No. 4 Southfield Christian swept 2017 Class D champion and current No. 6 Plymouth Christian to claim a Division 4 District title – MLive-Detroit

Girls Swimming & Diving: From Saturday, Lower Peninsula Division 1 No. 8 Northville won the Kensington Lakes Activities Association meet title just ahead of No. 3 Brighton – Observer & Eccentric

Girls Swimming & Diving: From Saturday, Sterling Heights won its first Macomb Area Conference division title, taking first in the Silver, while Macomb Dakota clinched an outright championship in the MAC White – Macomb Daily

Girls Swimming & Diving: From Saturday, LPD2 No. 3 Dexter won the Southeastern Conference White meet followed by LPD3 No. 5 Chelsea – Adrian Daily Telegram

Girls Swimming & Diving: From Saturday, the Traverse City Tritons co-op won the Coastal Conference meet just ahead of Ludington – Ludington Daily News

1. GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY Holland Christian won its first team title and Ann Arbor Pioneer’s Natasza Dudek ran the fastest time in Finals history to help her team sweep, while Whitmore Lake and Lansing Catholic repeated as team champs – MHSAA.com

2. BOYS SOCCER Portage Central claimed its first Finals title with a shootout win, Leland also won in a shootout, and Warren De La Salle Collegiate and Detroit Country Day added to their historic successes – MHSAA.com

3. BOYS CROSS COUNTRY Northville won its fourth-straight Finals title, Holland Calvary won its first, Flint Powers Catholic won its first since 1999 and Charlevoix swept titles – MHSAA.com

4. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL Mackinaw City came back from one set down to defeat Burt Lake Northern Michigan Christian Academy and win the Peninsula Championship – Cheboygan Daily Tribune

5. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL Fruitport finished 3-1 at the Sparta Invitational – MuskegonSports.com
