High schools took a break from competition Monday, as is often the case during the final weeks of fall and first practices of winter – so instead of the usual event coverage, we gathered a few reports of note including a feature on one of the most unexpected volleyball teams still alive, a two-sport fall athlete and how the Class A champion in girls basketball plans to come back for more.

1. SKIING Cadillac’s girls won their first Finals championship since 1990 while Traverse City Central’s girls, Traverse City West’s boys and Petoskey’s boys all repeated as champions – Second Half

9. GIRLS BASKETBALL Walled Lake Northern broke a nine-game, four-year losing streak against Walled Lake Central with a 40-37 Division 1 District Win – Spinal Column
