High schools took a break from competition Monday, as is often the case during the final weeks of fall and first practices of winter – so instead of the usual event coverage, we gathered a few reports of note including a feature on one of the most unexpected volleyball teams still alive, a two-sport fall athlete and how the Class A champion in girls basketball plans to come back for more.

2. GIRLS BASKETBALL Taylor Sullivan had a triple-double as Detroit Denby opened with a 56-51 win over Detroit University Prep – Detroit News
3. WRESTLING Muskegon Oakridge fell in both of its Wednesday matches, but they were the first for the program since 1973 – Local Sports Journal
