Hockey and girls basketball saw a few key local matchups come out a little differently than the recent past Wednesday night, and take a look as well at a State Champs! video report on the Big Ten’s move to playing football on Friday nights.

Millington earned its first win in four seasons over Birch Run, 56-49, to set up a Tri-Valley Conference East matchup for first place with Frankenmuth this weekend – Saginaw News

Battle Creek Pennfield’s girls and boys teams swept the Battle Creek All-City championships, the girls for the eighth straight season and the boys for the sixth straight – Battle Creek Enquirer

Flint Powers Catholic avenged last season’s Regional Final loss to Saginaw Heritage with a 4-2 win thanks in part to Brendan Smith’s hat trick – Flint Journal
Wrestling
Brighton, No. 8 in Division 1, clinched a 35-34 win over Division 3 No. 2 Lake Fenton in the night’s second-to-last match – Livingston Daily Press & Argus
Unranked Jonesville took Division 4 No. 5 Springport to the final match before Springport prevailed – Hillsdale Daily News

1. CROSS COUNTRY The Romeo girls – No. 1 in Lower Peninsula Division 1 – won their ninth-straight Macomb County championship, this time earning the top seven individual places, and Utica swept boys team and individual titles – Macomb Daily Girls | Boys
2. GIRLS SWIMMING & DIVING Jenison’s Sophia Umstead, Holland Christian’s Camryn Siegers and Ann Arbor Skyline’s Adrienne Schadler were multi-event champions at the annual MISCA meet – MISCA
3. BOYS TENNIS Unranked East Grand Rapids was the champion at the LPD3 Regional at Holland, with No. 5 Grand Rapids South Christian second – Holland Sentinel
4. CROSS COUNTRY Okemos swept the Greater Lansing Invitational team championships; Okemos’ girls are No. 11 in LPD1 – Lansing State Journal
5. CROSS COUNTRY The LPD4 No. 2 Harbor Springs girls and LPD3 No. 7 Charlevoix boys won Northern Shores Conference championships – Traverse City Record-Eagle
6. CROSS COUNTRY The Trenton girls and Allen Park boys were Downriver Invitational champions – Southgate News-Herald
7. CROSS COUNTRY The LPD3 honorable mention Onsted girls and Adrian boys were Lenawee County champions – Adrian Daily Telegram
8. CROSS COUNTRY Muskegon Western Michigan Christian swept championships at the Greater Muskegon Athletic Association races; the WMC girls are No. 11 in LPD3, and the boys are No. 13 – Grand Haven Tribune
9. CROSS COUNTRY Bay City Western swept Bay County titles, the girls with their 12th-straight championship and the boys with their sixth consecutive – Bay City Times
10. BOYS TENNIS No. 4 Petoskey earned the LPD3 Regional title at Big Rapids, just ahead of the No. 6 Cardinals – Big Rapids Pioneer
