The last busy night in Michigan high school sports before Christmas featured some giant basketball battles as contenders in Class A boys and Class A and B girls faced off.

Boys Basketball

Detroit U-D Jesuit, the reigning Class A champion, downing injury-depleted Macomb Dakota 69-61 in a rematch of last season’s Semifinal – Detroit Free Press

Hanover-Horton came back from an early 21-8 deficit to remain undefeated with a 63-62 win over Concord – Jackson Citizen-Patriot

Markell Jackson had 12 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocks as Muskegon downed Grand Haven 45-37 – Muskegon Chronicle

McBain won a key matchup of Class C powers, 73-62 over Boyne City after trailing by three at the start of the fourth quarter – Cadillac News

Girls Basketball

Detroit Country Day downed Midland Dow 56-46 in a matchup of likely contenders in Class B and A, respectively – MLive-Detroit

Spring Lake’s Reiko Johnson broke her school’s record for career points, but Shelby came away with a 49-47 win – Muskegon Chronicle

Unranked Calumet posted a strong statement in Division 3 with a 7-1 win over rival and No. 9-ranked Houghton – Houghton Daily Mining Gazette

Saline diver Dakota Hurbis broke his school and pool records with a score of 351.9 to lead the Hornets over Adrian – Saline Post

1. BOYS SOCCER No. 2 Detroit Country Day downed top-ranked Pontiac Notre Dame Prep 3-2 in overtime to win a Division 3 District title – Oakland Press

2. BOYS SOCCER No. 3 North Muskegon got past No. 2 Muskegon Western Michigan Christian 4-3 in overtime of their District final – WZZM

3. BOYS SOCCER Honorable mention Holland West Ottawa claimed its first District title since 2010 with a 2-0 win over No. 3 Grand Haven in Division 1 – Holland Sentinel

4. BOYS SOCCER No. 11 Detroit Catholic Central claimed a fourth-straight Division 1 District title with a 1-0 win over No. 9 Livonia Stevenson – Hometown Life

5. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL No. 4 Bloomfield Hills clinched a share of the Oakland Activities Association Red title with a four-set victory over honorable mention Clarkston – Oakland Press

6. BOYS SOCCER No. 4 Warren De La Salle Collegiate clinched a ninth-straight District title with a 4-1 win over Marysville in Division 2 – Macomb Daily

7. CROSS COUNTRY Ann Arbor Pioneer swept girls and boys Southeastern Conference Red championships; both are ranked No. 1 in Lower Peninsula Division 1 – Ann Arbor News Girls | Boys
