Boys basketball season tipped off all over Michigan on Monday, and as expected coverage of those games dominated today’s headlines.

Romulus got off to a great start with a 70-67 win over powerful Chicago Bogan at University of Detroit Mercy – Detroit News
Hancock broke an eight-game losing streak against rival Calumet with a 45-41 opening-night win – Houghton Daily Mining Gazette
Reigning Class D champion Powers North Central is pushing to break the MHSAA record for longest win streak and hasn’t lost in more than two seasons; it added an 87-19 opening-night win over Stephenson – Escanaba Daily Press
Battle Creek St. Philip came back from nine down at halftime to beat Mendon in their opener 56-53 – Battle Creek Enquirer

Thursday night meant opening night for most of Michigan’s varsity football teams, but they weren’t the only ones in competition as we’ve gathered an abbreviated “Today” of additional prep coverage.
1. Volleyball: Division 2 No. 9 Cadillac downed Kingsley 2-0 in the championship match to claim its tournament title – Cadillac News
2. Cross Country: The Tecumseh girls picked up their third victory this season, at the Ann Arbor Run Co Early Bird Invitational – Adrian Daily Telegram
