Although statewide action was light Wednesday, it included a milestone win, a record performance, a meeting of surging hockey programs and a matchup of two of the top girls basketball teams in Michigan.

Reigning Class A champion Warren Cousino handed previously-undefeated Port Huron Northern its first loss, 53-51, in a matchup of likely contenders again this March – Macomb Daily
Kalle Martinez tied the Bay City John Glenn school record with 36 points in a win over Gladwin – Bay City Times
Hockey
Pontiac Notre Dame Prep ran its unbeaten streak to nine and ended Oxford/Avondale’s six-game unbeaten streak with a 6-2 victory – Oakland Press

Blanchard Montabella earned coach Shaun Balhorn the 400th win of his career with a victory over Fulton – Mount Pleasant Morning Sun

1. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL Midland Dow defeated Shepherd, McBain, Mason, Division 3 No. 3 Roscommon and Mount Pleasant to win the Oilers’ invitational – Midland Daily News
2. CROSS COUNTRY The Lower Peninsula Division 2 No. 11 Bloomfield Hills Marian and LPD1 No. 7 Brownstown Woodhaven girls and LPD2 No. 13 Adrian and Novi boys were team winners at the 57th Huron Invitational – Monroe News
3. CROSS COUNTRY Traverse City Central swept championships at the Maple City Glen Lake Invitational – Traverse City Record-Eagle
4. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL Essexville Garber went 4-1 at its invitational with wins over Division 2 No. 4 Kingsley and No. 10 North Branch – Bay City Times
5. GIRLS VOLLEYBALL Division 4 No. 6 St. Joseph Michigan Lutheran repeated as Bridgman Invitational champion with a 6-0 record – St. Joseph Herald-Palladium
6. CROSS COUNTRY The Macomb Lutheran North girls and Livonia Churchill boys won Autumn Classic team titles – Macomb Daily
7. BOYS SOCCER Alpena defeated Grayling once and Cheboygan twice to claim its Sunrise Soccer Challenge championship – Alpena News
8. CROSS COUNTRY Belding swept the team titles at the Morley Stanwood Invitational – Big Rapids Pioneer
9. CROSS COUNTRY A total of 10 varsity champions were awarded at the 58th Holly-Duane Raffin Festival of Races – Athletic.net
