A giant upset in Division 1 wrestling Wednesday likely will shake up that sport’s state rankings as we approach the postseason, while an undefeated basketball team fell as another northern power continued to rise.

Petoskey handed Sault Ste. Marie its first loss this season, 63-39 – Petoskey News-Review

Sterling Heights got past Marysville 49-43 to move into first in the Macomb Area Conference Silver as it pursues its first league title since 1993 – Detroit News

Berrien Springs won the Division 3 and overall championships at the Rock the House Invitational with a school record 683.26 – St. Joseph Herald-Palladium

Wrestling

Division 4 No. 8 Mendon downed White Pigeon 39-24 to claim the Berrien-Cass-St. Joseph Conference title, its first in any league since 2009 – Kalamazoo Gazette

Reigning Division 1 champion and current No. 3 Hartland was upset 30-27 by unranked Walled Lake Central, which then fell to No. 10 Westland John Glenn in a double dual featuring the four Kensington Lakes Activities Association champions – Oakland Press

Even for the best, coaching wouldn't be referred to as "easy" -- and many would argue that it's grown tougher as time commitment, financial need and parental influence all have increased.
