A longtime baseball coach pulled within one victory Monday of becoming the fourth in Michigan history to win 1,000 games at the high school level.

Longtime Saginaw Heritage baseball coach Bob Andrezejewski earned his 999th career win as the Hawks split with Midland – Saginaw News

Livonia Franklin’s Joe Montie had a walk-off hit for the second straight game, this time to beat Salem 5-4 – Observer & Eccentric

Birmingham Groves got past Farmington 3-2 on a walk-off double by John Kowalchuk – Oakland Press

Track & Field

The Lake Linden-Hubbell girls and Bessemer boys won the Superior Central Invitational, held inside Northern Michigan University’s Superior Dome – Houghton Daily Mining Gazette

Although statewide action was light Wednesday, it included a milestone win, a record performance, a meeting of surging hockey programs and a matchup of two of the top girls basketball teams in Michigan.

Girls Basketball

Reigning Class A champion Warren Cousino handed previously-undefeated Port Huron Northern its first loss, 53-51, in a matchup of likely contenders again this March – Macomb Daily

Kalle Martinez tied the Bay City John Glenn school record with 36 points in a win over Gladwin – Bay City Times

Hockey 

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep ran its unbeaten streak to nine and ended Oxford/Avondale’s six-game unbeaten streak with a 6-2 victory – Oakland Press

Blanchard Montabella earned coach Shaun Balhorn the 400th win of his career with a victory over Fulton – Mount Pleasant Morning Sun
