We’re at the point in our school year where there were no events played Monday – Softball Quarterfinals are today, as are half of our Girls Soccer Semifinals – but here are a few headlines to check out as we continue to move through the final week of 2018-19.

This weekend: The Baseball, Softball and Girls Soccer Finals return to Michigan State University’s Old College Field beginning Thursday, and the Greater Lansing Sports Authority fills in the details – LansingSports.org

be nice.: The MHSAA is turning attention toward a new path in its health & safety mission – mental health – and here’s a glance at some of the work we’ll be doing to promote the be nice. Action Plan – Running in Silence

Baseball: The Detroit Free Press spent the MLB draft with Brownstown Woodhaven pitcher Colin Czajkowski, arguably Michigan’s top player, and documents the decisions that led to his ultimately not getting drafted – this time – as he’ll go on to University of Michigan instead – Detroit Free Press

This final “Today” of 2016 highlights notable results in girls and boys basketball and hockey from Tuesday. We’ll pick back up our daily posting of headlines from around the state Jan. 3.

Girls Basketball

Frankenmuth made it 100 straight Tri-Valley Conference East wins with a 65-24 victory over Caro – Saginaw News

Boys Basketball

Battle Creek Central opened the annual Chuck Turner Classic with a 60-50 win over Otsego – Battle Creek Enquirer

Williamston remained undefeated with a 73-58 win over strong Class C Dansville – Lansing State Journal

Frankfort downed Traverse City St. Francis 72-65 in a matchup of top small-school teams from the northern Lower Peninsula – Traverse City Record-Eagle

Hockey

Division 2 No. 8 Trenton found the net twice in the first period and went on to a 4-0 win over Division 3 No. 4 Warren DeLaSalle – Macomb Daily

Unranked Rochester downed No. 3 and Oakland Activities Association rival Troy, 5-3 – Oakland Press

Logan Homfeld’s overtime goal gave Muskegon Reeths-Puffer a 4-3 extra-period win over Muskegon Mona Shores – Muskegon Chronicle
