Close finishes in three sports highlighted Monday’s action, although a reigning MHSAA golf champion’s big win might be the most telling of all the results posted by our media across Michigan.

Girls Golf
Reigining Lower Peninsula Division 1 champion Traverse City West continued its dominating start by winning the Brighton Invitational, shooting a 321 to finish ahead of Saline and Brighton among others – Traverse City Record-Eagle
South Lyon edged Ann Arbor Pioneer on a fifth-player tie-breaker to win the Tecumseh Invitational – Observer & Eccentric
Boys Soccer
Tawas downed Lincoln Alcona 5-3, but Alcona keeper Conner McCoy set a school record with 34 saves – Alpena News
Birmingham Brother Rice’s goal with seven minutes to play was the decider in a 2-1 win over Farmington – Oakland Press
Volleyball
Grand Rapids Christian downed Grand Haven 17-15 in the deciding set of the championship match of the Buccaneers’ home tournament – Grand Haven Tribune
Saline finished 5-0 at the Southeastern Conference jamboree, downing among others Temperance Bedford in two sets – Saline Post
