High school events were few over the holiday weekend, but here’s some of the coverage of the most intriguing going back to Thursday afternoon’s competitions.

Cross Country
The Sault Ste. Marie girls won the Ogemaw Heights Invitational and the boys finished second to Alpena – Sault Ste. Marie Evening News
Waterford Mott’s girls took the top two places, but Troy won the team title at the Rochester Invitational, while Birmingham Brother Rice won the boys race – Oakland Press
Girls Golf
Rochester shot a 305 to win the Patriot Cup at The Fortress in Frankenmuth by 18 strokes – Saginaw News
Livonia Stevenson shot a 327 to win the Plymouth Invitational by 13 over runner-up Saline – Saline Post

Running fans already know the name Noah Jacobs, but the Corunna standout showed against Wednesday why more high school sports supporters will likely be familiar with his work by the end of this school year.

Corunna’s Noah Jacobs ran a 15:43 to win the medium school division of the Corunna Earlybird Invitational by nearly a minute – Owosso Argus-Press
Boys Soccer
For the first time in eight years, Holland Christian downed rival Hudsonville Unity Christian, posting a 3-2 overtime win – Holland Sentinel
Southgate Anderson held on to an early advantage in the Downriver League with a 2-1 win over Trenton – Southgate News-Herald
Tecumseh picked up its sixth shutout this season, downing Dexter 1-0 on Tuesday – Adrian Daily Telegram
Volleyball
Bay City Western earned four wins, the last over Essexville Garber in two sets, to win the Bay County Tournament – Bay City Times
