Perspective: Football Playoff Primer

In this week's edition of MHSAA Perspective, John Johnson offers his annual rundown on the process for how teams make the MHSAA Football Playoffs and how they are drawn into the brackets.
Now in its 10th season, the radio commentary MHSAA Perspective – presented by the Michigan Army National Guard – airs on over 80 radio stations and audio outlets across the state, generally during the local broadcasts of high school games. The program runs for 30 weeks through the end of the winter sports season.

This week's edition announces applications are now available for the 2026 MHSAA/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete Awards, awards Game Balls to high achievers in 11 and 8-player football, and introduces this season's Boys Soccer Tournament with District brackets published Sunday.
The 5-minute program each week includes feature stories from MHSAA.com or network affiliates, along with "Be the Referee," a 60-second look at the fine art of officiating.
"This Week in High School Sports" is powered by MI Student Aid, a division within the Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP).
