Title IX at 50: 29 Years, Thousands of Cheers

The 28th MHSAA Competitive Cheer Finals concluded Saturday at Grand Rapids' Delta Plex with Rochester Adams, Allen Park, Richmond and Hudson celebrating this season's championships. 

Those Finals sessions began with the video below, produced by MHSAA partner State Champs! Sports Network, and including a special shoutout to our first competitive cheer champions from 1994: Rochester, Gaylord, Pewamo-Westphalia and Webberville.

Performance of the Week: Allen Park's Sophie Ramey

Ramey, a two-time Division 2 all-state first-team selection, was among top contributors as Allen Park clinched a repeat title in the Downriver League with a season-high three-round score of 796.10 points at the conference championship meet. The Jaguars won by just less than a point ahead of rival Gibraltar Carlson, clinching the league title with a season-best 323.6 in Round 3.

Allen Park remains ranked No. 1 statewide in Division 2 this week, while Carlson is No. 2 statewide, and those two programs have combined to win the last 18 Division 2 Finals championships with Allen Park finishing first the last two seasons. Ramey was a major part of both of those teams as well and is considering continuing to cheer after leaving Allen Park to attend Grand Valley State University, where she plans to study secondary education while majoring in mathematics and minoring in psychology.
