Basketball teams got an early start on the weekend and holiday break with a number of Thursday night games, topped by a girls rivalry between high-powered neighbors.
“Today in the MHSAA” will take a break as well over the next two weeks and return Jan. 6.
1. Girls Basketball: Midland improved to 5-0 with its first win over rival Dow in two seasons, 38-31 – Midland Daily News

No-hitters and double-overtime game-winning goals are the accomplishments from which memories are made, and Thursday’s statewide action included at least one of both.

Justin Pullins added a career highlight with 14 strikeouts while throwing a no-hitter in Coloma’s 9-0 win over Watervliet – St. Joseph Herald-Palladium
Boys Lacrosse
Sterling Heights Stevenson rode a 6-1 third-quarter advantage to a close 11-9 win over Utica Ford – Macomb Daily
Girls Soccer
Bethany Shay’s goal with seven seconds remaining in double overtime gave Ludington a 4-3 win over Muskegon Western Michigan Christian – Muskegon Chronicle
Midland kicked off its season in impressive fashion with a 3-0 shutout of East Lansing – Midland Daily News
