Volleyball teams hoisted MHSAA District title trophies all over Michigan on Thursday. Here are 10 championship stories that stuck out a little from the rest we came across.
Volleyball
Class A top-ranked Novi swept honorable mention Northville to move on to next week’s Regional – Oakland Press
Honorable mention Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central won its Class A District in four sets over Grand Rapids Northview, the Ottawa-Kent Conference Bronze champion – Grand Rapids Press
No. 8 North Branch swept No. 2 Mount Morris to claim an 11th straight Class B District championship – Flint Journal
Class B honorable mention Saginaw Swan Valley pushed its school-record win total to 57 with a District Final sweep of Freeland – Saginaw News
Another Class B honorable mention, Grant, won its fifth straight District title with a sweep of Fremont – Muskegon Chronicle
Class C No. 8 Brown City won its fourth straight District title with a sweep of Sandusky – Port Huron Times-Herald
Montague, No. 3 in Class C, won its first District title since 1997 with a sweep of Shelby – Muskegon Chronicle
Unranked Hemlock won the final two sets to claim a 3-2 win over honorable mention St. Louis in Class C – Mount Pleasant Morning Sun
Honorable mention Marcellus took No. 8 Mendon to five sets before the Hornets prevailed in a Class D District Final – Sturgis Journal
Unionville-Sebewaing needed five sets and an extra point in the final to down Cass City for a fifth straight Class D District title – Huron Daily Tribune

1. GIRLS SOCCER Gaylord clinched a share of its first Big North Conference title since 2002 with a 4-0 win over Petoskey – Petoskey News-Review
2. SOFTBALL Division 1 No. 3 Saline clinched a fourth-straight Southeastern Conference Red title with a sweep of second-place Temperance Bedford – Saline Post
3. BASEBALL Division 1 No. 13 Hartland defeated No. 16 Novi 1-0 to clinch its first overall Kensington Lakes Activities Association title in this sport since 2011 – Livingston Daily Press & Argus
4. BOYS GOLF Bath finished an outright championship run in the Central Michigan Athletic Conference with a league tournament win – Lansing State Journal
5. BOYS GOLF Muskegon Mona Shores – No. 10 in Lower Peninsula Division 1 – placed the top two individuals in winning the Ottawa-Kent Conference Green Tournament – Local Sports Journal
6. SOFTBALL Division 1 No. 8 Grand Blanc shut out Midland 2-0 in the Saginaw Valley League championship game – Midland Daily News
7. BASEBALL Division 2 No. 5 Richmond swept Croswell-Lexington to finish undefeated in the Blue Water Area Conference
8. SOFTBALL Midland Dow swept Freeland with Dow’s Marley Hughes becoming the Midland County career home run leader – Midland Daily News
9. BOYS LACROSSE Oxford will play in a Regional Final for the first time after defeating Grand Blanc 15-7 in Division 1 – Oakland Press
10. SOFTBALL Division 2 No. 9 Essexville Garber swept Division 4 No. 4 Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart – Mount Pleasant Morning Sun
