Although statewide action was light Wednesday, it included a milestone win, a record performance, a meeting of surging hockey programs and a matchup of two of the top girls basketball teams in Michigan.

Reigning Class A champion Warren Cousino handed previously-undefeated Port Huron Northern its first loss, 53-51, in a matchup of likely contenders again this March – Macomb Daily
Kalle Martinez tied the Bay City John Glenn school record with 36 points in a win over Gladwin – Bay City Times
Hockey
Pontiac Notre Dame Prep ran its unbeaten streak to nine and ended Oxford/Avondale’s six-game unbeaten streak with a 6-2 victory – Oakland Press
Wrestling
Blanchard Montabella earned coach Shaun Balhorn the 400th win of his career with a victory over Fulton – Mount Pleasant Morning Sun

1. GIRLS SWIMMING & DIVING Ann Arbor Pioneer edged Northville to claim the 19th Huron Relays championship; Pioneer is No. 1 and Northville No. 2 in the opening Lower Peninsula Division 1 rankings – We Love Ann Arbor
2. VOLLEYBALL Marquette went 7-0 to claim the Sault Ste. Marie Invitational championship – Marquette Mining Journal
3. BOYS SOCCER Royal Oak downed Grosse Pointe South in a shootout to win the Paul Bartoshuk Tournament at Detroit Country Day – Macomb Daily
4. BOYS SOCCER Michael Kramer scored all three goals as Brighton downed Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice 3-0 – Livingston Daily Press & Argus
5. VOLLEYBALL Kingsford upset top-seeded Escanaba to win its 12-team invitational – Iron Mountain Daily News
6. BOYS TENNIS Bay City John Glenn won 20 matches to clinch its annual quad invitational – Bay City Times
7. CROSS COUNTRY The Hartland boys and Freeland and Marshall girls were among champions at St. Johns’ Under the Lights Invitational – Livingston Daily Press & Argus
8. VOLLEYBALL Burr Oak swept all five of its matches in winning the Tekonsha Tournament championship – Sturgis Journal
9. CROSS COUNTRY Mason swept titles and the Northville boys and Brighton girls also were winners at the Novi Lamplighter Invitational – Observer & Eccentric
10. BOYS SOCCER Madison Heights Bishop Foley finished with shutouts in their last two games to win the Bob Floros Memorial Cup at Ferndale – Oakland Press
